WHAT IS TOUGHENED GLASS?

In short, toughened or tempered glass is a form of safety glass designed to be far more durable than standard glass, able to withstand greater physical and thermal stress. This makes it ideal for any projects that require enhanced strength.

It is a popular material for use by builders, architects, interior designers and many more, because toughened glass can be used to create fantastic effects that would not normally be achievable with other forms of glass.

A WIDE RANGE OF APPLICATIONS

Toughened glass is popular for many different projects, both interior and exterior. It can be used for shelves and tabletops, as well as shower doors, splashbacks and similar projects.

It’s a great choice for modern and stylish balustrades and Juliet balconies, offering great aesthetic appeal without compromising on structural strength. Whatever you’re planning to use toughened glass for, the team at Doncaster Glass & Glazing Ltd can provide just what you need.

SAFETY FIRST!

The purpose of toughened glass is to create a glass that can be used safely where traditional glass can’t. To make this possible, the glass is treated with heat to harden it. This heat treatment also creates balanced internal stresses within the sheet of glass that affect the way it breaks if subjected to an impact or stress that it cannot withstand.

In these cases, the glass will come apart into small fragments rather than large shards, making it much less likely to injure people.
